Council on Education
Overall Purpose/Mission
Provides oversight and decision-making for the Academy’s education portfolio based on evaluating and assessing recommendations from the Council on Education Content Committees (CC). Selection of programs, products, and services is based on creating a balanced approach of orthopaedic education across all specialties and the career life-cycle of the Academy’s members. The education portfolio is developed in accordance with the essential policies and standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
Charges
Comply with the Strategic Plan as adopted by the Board of Directors (BoD) and implement the Education and Publishing Strategy approved by the BoD in December, 2017 while ensuring that the organizational-wide goals of partnership are considered in all activities.
Advise and direct new program development brought forward by the Content Committees.
Assimilate and evaluate market research data and member needs assessments to consider new programs/projects as recommended by the Content Committees. Use member and customer research and other planning methods to create a continuing three-year educational program/project plan that is reevaluated annually.
Engage in research on educational methods and outcomes related to AAOS programs and publish the results of this research.
Assure the Council on Education Program Chairs and the Content Committees explore and consider new educational technologies and methodologies and incorporate into the Academy’s programs and services.
Identify unique content that affects all members and direct the development of special projects, e.g., aging, patient safety, diversity, and others. Interact with other Academy committees as needed in project development.
As indicated by market research, provide continuing education opportunities for other physician groups and allied health care professionals, who support and provide musculoskeletal care.
Track changes in the ABOS MOC program and develop educational strategies and programs to ensure AAOS members are able to maintain certification and medical licensure.
Oversight of the AAOS Education Enhancement Fund (AEEF). Consider and approve AEEF requests.
